Many of us have habits of denying our needs, and punishing ourselves and others for having needs. An unfulfilled need is one of the quickest ways to get trapped in an endless loop of unconscious behavior that can sabotage us and spill over into many areas of life and make it difficult or impossible to make changes or progress. This is because the body (the self) will seek to fill the need no matter what in toxic, illusory ways, unless we respect ourselves and fill the need in the most loving, generous, life-giving way.
If you are experiencing suffering in any part of your life, examine to see if an unfulfilled need is at the root. Do a simple search online using the keyword "universal human needs" and you will find a list of a variety of needs that everyone has. A way to go on a healing journey for yourself over the next several weeks and months is to take each of the needs listed, one at a time, and ask yourself if you are healthy or hurting in that area. Then learn what you need to learn, and act, to fulfill that need for yourself. You will heal, and your other desires for change and reaching your dreams will also be a lot easier because you are no longer fighting against your body regarding its most basic directives of being alive.
Here is a specific example. One of the most basic human needs is one we attempt to mess with most often. Many of us have a goal to lose weight. When we select methods of reaching that goal, we may allow ourselves to forget or dishonor that our bodies need to eat, or we even actively fight against that need. Eat. Eat good, living foods, plenty of them, and your body will honor you with balance and that will eventually translate into an appropriate weight. You will also remain emotionally and spiritually whole because you refrained from battle against yourself, and instead gave gifts.
Recognize, accept, educate, enlighten, fulfill, and enjoy your needs.
